Many of you I am sure are thinking Hmmm? What could she possibly mean by “Have you filled a Bucket Today?” When I first heard the phrase I myself went Hmmm.. After all I was hearing it from my 5 year old son as he was describing that if he and his classmates filled each others buckets, at the end of the month his Kindergarten class got extra time at recess. I just nodded my head and said “wow that is awesome!” not knowing what I would find out on Back to School Night really required a WOW.
My son’s school is working on a new way to get the teachers, children and parents on the right track this school year based on the children’s book Have you filled A Bucket Today? by Carol McCloud. The book is used as a guide to daily happiness for children. In the book, children are taught about Bucket Filling, Bucket Dipping, Putting a Lid On and that when they fill someone else’s bucket, they are actually filling their own.
With all the bullying issues on the news it is definitely in my opinion a great way to teach children early on using a concept they can understand. Adults can learn from this exercise as well, and we have even started using it at home by making sure we say something “bucket filling” to everyone in the house everyday. It has also helped to teach my son that sometimes Mommys and Daddys just need to “put a lid ” on so they don’t say the wrong thing.
As parents, we need to teach our children how to be kind to others so that this becomes part of their everyday life. We can do that by making their day everyday, being there for them all the time, choosing your attitude when speaking to them or in front of them. Just these things will implode their buckets in a positive way.
Here is the Bucket Filling Pledge:
I promise to do my best everyday to be a bucket filler not to dip and to use my lid for myself and others at home, work, school and everywhere I go!
By reading this post you have taken the pledge how will you help full someone’s bucket today?

Summer Time in our house means more family time and pillow talk for me and my husband on the side porch sipping a cocktail and talking about our day. Who would not want to Savor? Now that the days are shorter and the nights are longer our pillow talk one would think would move back inside… not in our house when you work indoors all day the need to be outside is even greater as summer has come to a close. We want to Savor the Flavor of Summer as long as we can.
Daily’s Cocktails has been a great way to help keep summer and porch pillow talk alive in our house. Just tonight I grabbed a pouch of Margarita and after a long work day it was just what I needed without the hassle of messes, NO mixing and NOT having to wait to enjoy. As the nights get colder I look forward to trying the seasonal pouches that will feature Hard Cider and Spiced Sangria. I know my husband has already said he is sticking with his favorite Pina Colada.
We are planing a house warming party this fall and already have Daily’s Cocktail’s on our shopping list and will have a wide variety so we are sure to satisfy everyones favorite flavors and tastes.

Election day… I find myself at least 5 times daily hovering over the delete post, block post or de-friend user box’s on most social network pages.
People that I would normally admire or take advice from are even making me consider their creditability and I see they have posted on this wall or commented on that status regarding this candidate or that one.
Everyone is entitled to their political view. Right Wing , Left Wing, No Wing. No matter which way you look at it, we will all have a different view. You will view it from your families religious beliefs, economic standpoint, superstitions, Pro-Choice, Pro-Life and just about anything that you feel will justify who you will vote for in next Election and I will do the same.
Being a dental hygienist for most of my adult life I have practiced during what will now be my 6th presidential election and as my own practice policy I will not discuss who I am voting for and I would never ask anyone who they were voting for, yet it comes up. I smile and I say I don’t discuss politics, but isn’t it a beautiful day outside. I get looks, snide remarks or my patients will begin to tell me who they will be voting for an why. It is the 1 time during the course of the year that I am speechless or speak less.
Even this morning when I went into 7-11 for a cup of coffee to my surprise you could even show your candidate’s support with either Red Republican or Blue Democratic cup’s.
Am I alone in feeling that with Election day a little less then 2 months away, The next 50 something days are going to be long?
Can’t wait to see Monsters, Inc 3D!
“Monsters, Inc.,” one of Disney•Pixar’s most beloved and visually imaginative feature films ever, returns to the big screen to delight a whole new generation of audiences and fans alike, this time in stunning 3D. The now-classic Academy Award®-winning animated comedy adventure “Monsters, Inc.” is set in Monstropolis, a thriving company town where monsters of all shapes and sizes reside. Lovable Sulley (voiced by John Goodman) and his wisecracking best friend Mike Wazowski (voiced by Billy Crystal) are the top scare team at Monsters, Inc., the largest scream-processing factory. The main power source in the monster world is the collected screams of human children—and at Monsters, Inc., an elite team of scarers is responsible for gathering those precious natural resources. Believed by monsters to be toxic, children are strictly forbidden from entering Monstropolis. But when a little girl named Boo (voiced by Mary Gibbs) accidentally follows Sulley back into his world, he finds his career in jeopardy and his life in utter chaos. So pals Mike and Sulley plot to rectify the mistake and return Boo to her home. But when the trio encounters an unexpected series of complications, they become embroiled in a cover-up catapulting them into a mystery beyond their wildest dreams.

Tomorrow, all of Mommy’s Links blogs are going TEAL for ovarian cancer awareness in honor of those who have survived, who are going to survive and in memory of those who have lost their battle to this horrible disease.
A woman’s risk of getting ovarian cancer during her lifetime is about one in 67. The risk of getting this cancer and dying from it is one in 95. Ovarian cancer is the eighth most common cancer in women, excluding skin cancer. It is the fifth leading cause of cancer death in women.
As women we need to stand together in this fight. According to the Women’s Cancer Awareness Group last year nearly 19,000 women pledged to wear TEAL today. This year they hope at least 22,000 will. Will you be one of us wearing TEAL today?
In memory of Francisca Reyes (1942-2002), mother of Heiddi Zalamar, our Blog Administrator, who passed away from ovarian cancer ten years ago this month. We remember her, all the other women who lost their fight, and the women fighting today. BE STRONG!
