In a new twist on fairytale fun, favorite Disney characters compete to be the next superstar in comical segments leading up to the tales of show stopping princesses – Ariel, Rapunzel, Belle, and Merida fromDisney•Pixar’s BRAVE in her ice debut!

“The most exciting part of bringing a fearless and independent character like Merida to the ice for the first time is knowing that she has a powerful and inspiring message to deliver about finding the courage to determine one’s own fate,” says Producer Nicole Feld. “We think her story translates well to the ice and will really resonate with today’s audience.”

Produced by Feld Entertainment, Rockin’ Ever After remixes the stories of Disney’s most adventurous heroines with upbeat music and energetic choreography that will have audiences singing, dancing and cheering for their beloved Disney idols. Mickey and Minnie encounter the most talented performers in the land with an all-star lineup that includes Sebastian and the Daughters of Triton from The Little Mermaid, the rowdy pub thugs from Tangled and the spunky enchanted servants from Beauty and the Beast. The journey continues to the Scottish highlands where audiences will be captivated and star struck by Merida, as an exhilarating archery contest ensues for the right to marry the fiery redhead.

One Short of A Family Four Pack

No matter where you go these days everyone offers the Bargin Family Four Pack. Whether  your looking for a children’s show or event most of them offer special pricing for a family of four. So what happens when your family of four is not four. What is a Family to do when They are One Short of A Family Four Pack? I never really noticed it before because I guess we always would invite a friend for my son to play with or another family would go and need an extra ticket since their family was larger then four.

In instances such as Value Diners or Meal offers we have my mother who lives with us , or my niece who is also residing with us while she gets her feet on the ground in New York so food, coupons or value will never go to waste. Since last Monday October 15th  was National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Day, I got to thinking how the family four pack effects our family since we are unable to have anymore children and have not decided if we will go the route of adoption. While this may seem trivial to most it is something that made reality set in that our family of three is only that three and do we really live in a society where people are expected to still have 2 children with a dog and a white picket fence?

Am I alone in these feeling or are there other families that feel the same way as I do?

National Workplace Politics Month

As many of you know, during the day I work as a Practice Manager for an extremely progessive state of the art pediatric dental practice. As you can imagine, when you are working with a bunch of women, tempers, moods, PMS and politics can make for a less then fun work environment no matter how stimulating the atmosphere or how much you enjoy what you do. So imagine my surprise when I found out October was National WorkPlace Politics Month.

Unfortunately many of us, including myself, deal with WorkPlace Politics. As hard as you try to avoid it, you  get sucked  in. Usually in a way that makes matters worse, which in turn decreases productivity , is a colossal waste of time and toxic to the entire TEAM.

When Workplaces take politics and suppress them it often creates for hostile work environments and increases internal tension and stress within the organization. Studies show us that increased stress is worse on the heart and increases your chance of a heart attack more so then diet and lack of exercise.

I have finally accepted the fact that being in a managerial position, I have ALL the responsibilities and NONE of the RIGHTS. Nobody likes the boss and I often find myself asking the question to myself and others ‘how’s that working for you?’  It has taken me a long time to come to these harsh realities but I am finally learning to embrace them. As many of us are aware, workplace politics are painful, sad and something to be avoided. Yet gossip, backbiting, stabbing and rivalry still occurs

If you are feeling that Workplace politics are becoming toxic to your life and your well being , their are many ways and secrets to dealing with them. Some people play computer games.  I have recently found for myself that singing helps get me through the crisis or political moment until it passes. I have recently stumbled upon a book that could help both you and I deal with common ploys and ways to work through them. The book 303 Secrets to Workplace Politics by Richard Brenner

What many people fail to realize is that we all go to work because we share a common goal and have a passion for what we do and YES, a paycheck too. I am not independently wealthy but I do have a love for what I do and a desire to help create great dental patients in a stress free fun place.

So when you go to work tomorrow ask yourself what are you doing to decrease Workplace Politics and how you can help make it work for  others.

National Dental Hygiene Month

October 1st kicks off many “National” months, my personal favorite and one as a Dental Professional is National Dental Hygiene Month. Proper Dental Hygiene is something that should be taught at an early age. The mouth is one of the passage ways into the body and in order to have “total health” you must first have Oral Health.

Having good oral health does not just happen.  Yes, genetics does play a role, but it is something that is nurtured and taught. These teachings should happen as early 3-6 months. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that children have their first Oral Examination on their first birthday and subsiquent visits bi-annually.

By Brushing 2x daily for a minimum of 2 minutes, flossing daily, rinsing with a non alcohol mouth rinse and chewing, yes, chewing sugarless gum , you to can be on the right path to optimal Oral Health regardless of how busy and hectic your lifestyle is.

The American Dental Hygiene Association (ADHA) has a very easy theme for this year’s National Dental Hygiene Month: “Keep them Healthy, Keep them Clean” which continues to stress how easy it is for you to incorporate the proper oral hygiene regime into your daily life and that of your children.

In order to make brushing fun and educational for children, The American Dental Association (ADA) has incorporated Stop Zombie Mouth which has games, activity sheets, quizes, facts , invites , trading cards and even Halloween masks for children.

Take the quiz and see how much you know about Zombies and Candy, after the quiz call your dentist and schedule your families regular dental check-ups.

Wreck It Ralph In Theaters Nov 2nd

We can’t wait to see Wreck It Ralph in our house.  Will you be there opening weekend?

From Walt Disney Animation Studios and Emmy®-winning director Rich Moore comes “Wreck-It Ralph,” a hilarious, arcade-game-hopping adventure. For decades, Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) has been overshadowed by Fix-It Felix, Jr. (voice of Jack McBrayer), the good-guy star of their game who always gets to save the day. Tired of playing the role of a bad guy, Ralph takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a journey across the arcade through multiple generations of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero.

On his quest, Ralph meets tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch) from the first-person action game Hero’s Duty, and feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman) from the candy-coated cart racing game, Sugar Rush, who may just be his first real friend. But everything changes when a deadly enemy is unleashed, threatening the entire arcade and Vanellope herself. Ralph finally gets his chance to save the day—but can he do it in time?

“Wreck-It Ralph” crashes onto the big screen on November 2, 2012, in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.

Target Inspired Halloween Workshop

Anyone who knows me knows I LOVE HALLOWEEN so when Main Man and I along with our buddies were invited to partake in a Target Inspired Halloween Workshop with Mom Ambassador Soleil Moon Frye this past Tuesday it was a definite no questions asked day for this Main Mama. Many of us remember Soleil as our childhood idol Punky Brewster , it was quite interesting explaining to my 5 year old that she was to me what Pokemon is to him right now.

Main Man and friends with Soleil Moon Rye

We were greeted at Target Studios in NYC with the children receiving “trick or treat” bags, but there were no tricks in store for any of us just wonderful treats. The children were invited to different areas throughout the studio where they were invited to take a look at and try out some of the great looks Target has to offer this Halloween season.

Target Studio Target Inspired Halloween

The first area we stopped at was a great arts and crafts area where the children tested Kid Made Modern Skull Shaped Crayons along with pumpkins and masks to make and design your own using stickers and foam shapes the children created great works of art.

So many colors in one crayon who could ask for more

Children both young and old were constantly offered treats and  I personally came away with many ideas we will use for pumpkin decorating and  our Halloween Party later this month. With Party Place ideas from Target you can realistically plan a great Halloween Inspired Party by shopping at Target for about $100.00.

How to Plan a Target Inspired Party for around $100.00

We couldn’t resist and visited our local Target the next day!

Wether you are looking for accessories for the vampire living in your house or the princess living within you . Target is the place where you are sure to find everything you will need and so much more you will want for all of your families Halloween needs.

As we were leaving our Halloween Workshop us moms were given our own bag of tricks and treats with a delicious recipe to make Monster Trail Mix Bars which were one of the treats we were given to taste during our stay at Target Studios. Both Main Man & I enjoyed the bars so we have decided to make them for our upcoming party and you can to by following the recipe below.

Monster Trail Mix Bars Makes 36 Servings

12 (5×2 1/2 inch) graham crackers

3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter

3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar

3 cups miniature marshmallows

1 bag (14oz) Archer Farms Monster Trail Mix (about 3 cups)

1. Heat Oven to 350 degrees. Line 15x10x1 inch jelly roll pan with aluminum foiled leaving a 1 inch overhand on ends, spray foil with cooking spray. Place graham crackers onto foil with sides touching.

2. Melt butter and brown sugar in medium saucepan on MEDIUM hear, stirring constantly, until smooth and mixture comes to a boil, about 5 minutes. Pour evenly over crackers.

3. Bake 5 to 6 minutes or until bubbly overall

4. Remove pan from oven , sprinkle with marshmallows and trail mix. Continue baking until marshmallows begin to soften, about 2 to 3 minutes. Cool completely . Lift from pan using foil. Cut into bars and enjoy!

We plan on making Monster Trail Mix Bars for all our Halloween Parties this year will you be to?

Happy Halloween

Dark Shadows DVD Giveaway and Blog App

Do you love Johnny Depp? Well here is your chance to see him back in action on the big screen with a DVD Giveaway. Warner Brothers Pictures has just announced that on October 2nd 2012 that Dark Shadows will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray and there is a  Dark Shadows Blog App so you can check your Dark Shadows knowledge or learn your own creep factor before it’s release.

From the incredible mind of Tim Burton comes the hit film Dark Shadows, based on the classic television series!  Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp) has been trapped for two centuries by an evil witch (Eva Green) who just happens to be an ex lover.  Barnabas now has to struggle with the ever changing 1970s and save his families business!  With an all star cast that includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Chloe Grace Moretz, Jonny Lee Miller and more, Dark Shadows will be sure to whet your appetite for fun.

Want to own a copy of your own? Just answer the Barnabas Terrific Trivia or Take the Are You Creepy Enough Quiz on the Dark Shadows Blog App and post your results below and Main Street Mama will pick one winner on October 9th at 11:59pm

Creepy Conservative is who I am … You most definitely have a tendency to flirt with evil but are far from truly wicked. Honestly…the necessity to suck the blood of the living is not high on your priority list, but you envision being a vampire would have its perks. You enjoy spending life on the lighter side and that’s perfectly fine…and although creepy might not be your first name, it certainly is your middle name! BAM!

I was not surprised by my results, will you be with yours?  I look forward to your review of Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp after the release on October 2nd 2012 and learning your Creepy Enough Quiz Results.

Hot Toys in the City A Family Playdate

What better way to spend a Saturday afternoon in New York City than with my main men at a Family Playdate? We checked out the hot toys in the city with the top picks for this year’s holiday season.  Our afternoon Playdate hosted by TollyTots Toys was so much fun. We were greeted at the entrance of 620 50th Street and whisked up to the 7th floor where the elevators doors opened to the perfect place for a playdate. A nice, open room complete with TollyTot Toys for all our children to enjoy and explore. They even had toys in an outdoor rooftop garden so when we checked out the baby doll carriage selections the children could test on real concrete and grass.

Nicholas’ eye right away caught the bright colors of the Rubik’s and I have to say they caught both mommy and daddy’s eyes as well. After all, I was a master of the cube as a youngster. The new Rubik’s are the same concept but for younger hands. There are many different options under the Rubik’s family for children as young as 6 months old. My first Rubik’s Cube, Rubik’s Twisty Stack & Nest Cubes,Rubik’s Sort & Solve were good, but overall our family favorite was the Rubik’s Rock & Roll Maze and it is an affordable gift retailing at only $19.99.

My music-loving son was then drawn to the Baby Genius line of Hot Toys. The Rap and Tap One Man Band and Be A Star Sing-Along Jukebox are sure to be on our gift giving list this Holiday Season.

Being a true girly girl at heart, I had to check out the My First Disney Princess line of toys and found Prince Eric for my son to play with, after all real boys play with dolls.

All this playing made us a little hungry and we were treated to so many wonderful snacks. The children were given Sippy Cups from Safety First, so they could take a break, enjoy a drink and go back to having fun without either of us having to worry about spills.

Once we had refueled we headed back in for some more Family Playdate fun. We found ourselves heading back to the Rubik’s section of toys. There were giant-sized soft Rubik’s cubes you could lay on, play catch with or volley cube with the smaller ones. At one point, we found main  man just relaxing on them taking in the view.

Main man decided he would challenge his dad to a Rubik’s Hot Toys in the City Cube off.

If you ask them both they both won!
After the competition main man wanted to try out the rest of the Rubik’s family and test his building skills with the Stack & Build Blocks.

We tried many different heights and designs and these 2 were  our family favorites.

I already know that the giant Rubik’s blocks are on my son’s wish list for the holiday season as well as the Stack & Build Blocks and Rubik’s Rock & Roll Maze. Which of these will be on your child’s Hot Toys for the Holiday this year?

TollyTots Toys as part of their Playdate in the City donated funds in honor of each family in attendance today to Operation Smile. Operation Smile provides life changing cleft palate and cleft lip surgeries for children around the globe. For as little as $240.00 your family can help sponsor this surgery for a child. We do this every holiday season as this foundation is very near and dear to us. This year we might just have to make it 2. After all during playdates helps kids learn to share.  Why not share the gift of a smile?

TollyTots Toys featuring My First Disney Princess, Graco, Fisher-Price, Baby Genius and Rubik’s are available at the following retailersTarget, Walmart and Toys R Us.
