This year the Earth Day theme is ‘The Face of Climate Change’ as we celebrate the 43rd anniversary by encouraging people to join in the next “billion acts of green” across the world. Join us at these local Bronx and Westchester Earth Day events:
Earth Day Westchester 2013 at Kensico Dam, Valhalla
Friday April 19 from 10am-4pm
Kensico Dam Plaza, at the north end of the Bronx River Parkway
Free event – there will be exhibits, bands, prizes, awards and a farmer’s market!
Flags and Kites Day at Wave Hill, Bronx
Saturday, April 20 10am-1pm
Showing children how to make simple kites and flags to celebrate Earth Day from plastic bottles.
Westchester’s Ridge Hill Family Bike Day, Yonkers
Sunday April 21
10am–12pm (location: Town Square) Register for Family Bike Day. The first 100 kids who register get a free t-shirt! Meet at Town Square.
10am–12pm (location: Market Street) Free bike lessons from pro-cyclists. The pros will also help with bike sizing and teach kids hand signals and the rules of the road.
12- 1pm (Location: Market Street) Kids bike sprints grouped by age: 5-6; 7-8; 9-10. Kids can win medals too.
10am–2pm (Location: Town Square) Free helmet fittings and bike adjustments from REI
You can also donate your old bike and meet Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano who is collecting bikes for the needy.
“Forever Green” program at Pelham Bay Park, Bronx
Sunday April 21 10am–1pm (rain or shine)
Registration begins at 9:30 near the track. You will be assisting with a variety of projects such as planting, weeding, and shoreline clean-up, sponsored by The Girl Scouts of Greater New York
“Kids’ Beach Exploration Program” at Orchard Beach, Bronx
Sunday April 21 at 1pm.
Work with park rangers to learn and explore the nature, meet at Section 2.
Earth Day Celebration at Greenburgh Nature Center, Scarsdale
Sunday April 21 1-3:30PM
Spruce up their grounds, prepare garden beds, clear trails and more. Learn about sustainability practices from naturalist staff. Free visit to the Animal Museum for all Earth Day volunteers.

Now – Friday April 26, All entries due in the office 4/26. They will pick 3 winners of the poster contest, prizes to be announced. Posters can be free hand for younger children. Please stop by the office and pick up a template.
