If you child is like main man then LEGOS are a big part of your everyday lives. When we first heard the news that LEGOLAND Discovery was going to open up at RidgeHill in Yonkers we were beyond excited and we have looking forward to opening day on March 27, 2013. LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester has Launched a search and they are Calling All Mini Model Builders in the tri-state area to join their junior construction panel. The Panel will consist of 12 youngsters (ages 6 – 12) to serve as ambassadors for the attraction throughout the year and work alongside/consult with its Master Model Builder to help finish plans for new LEGO models, provide input on what features could be added and best of all, give their seal of approval when the attraction opens March 27.

LEGOS Fun For Girls & Boys

If selected to the panel, winners will receive a special “box of imagination,” an annual pass to the attraction and work alongside LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester Master Model Builder Mike Tocidlowski, to help finish plans for new LEGO models, provide input on what features could be added and best of all, give their official approval when the attraction opens this spring. In addition, the school with the most entries for the Junior Construction Panel will also be entered for a chance to win a visit from Master Model Builder Mike Tocidlowski.

Chris Mines, General Manager of LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester said,  “Children are ideal consultants for providing feedback in shaping the experience their friends will enjoy at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester.  The panel gives kids the opportunity to work with Mike, express their creativity and input and give their seal of approval on the attraction.”

If you child wants to apply for a spot on the panel  here is how:

  • With the help of a parent, guardian or teacher, MINI model builders will create a brief news report video, no longer than 90 seconds, about why they are the area’s biggest LEGO fan or about a LEGO model they’ve built.

  • All videos should start with the line, “My name is (INSERT NAME) and I am a LEGOLAND Discovery Center MINI model builder and I want to be on the Junior Construction Panel because…”

  • The video should be uploaded to YouTube and the MINI model builder’s information, including the name, city and state of the MINI model builder’s school; the parent, guardian or teacher’s email address; and the YouTube URL of the video, should be filled out on the form at on LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester’s Facebook page.

Junior Builders will be judged on creativity, enthusiasm for LEGO and their LEGO models. Entries must be received by Tuesday February 19, 2013. For more details visit their Facebook page

One Short of A Family Four Pack

No matter where you go these days everyone offers the Bargin Family Four Pack. Whether  your looking for a children’s show or event most of them offer special pricing for a family of four. So what happens when your family of four is not four. What is a Family to do when They are One Short of A Family Four Pack? I never really noticed it before because I guess we always would invite a friend for my son to play with or another family would go and need an extra ticket since their family was larger then four.

In instances such as Value Diners or Meal offers we have my mother who lives with us , or my niece who is also residing with us while she gets her feet on the ground in New York so food, coupons or value will never go to waste. Since last Monday October 15th  was National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Day, I got to thinking how the family four pack effects our family since we are unable to have anymore children and have not decided if we will go the route of adoption. While this may seem trivial to most it is something that made reality set in that our family of three is only that three and do we really live in a society where people are expected to still have 2 children with a dog and a white picket fence?

Am I alone in these feeling or are there other families that feel the same way as I do?

Have You Filled A Bucket or Had Your Bucket Filled Today?

Many of you I am sure are  thinking Hmmm? What could she possibly mean by “Have you filled a Bucket Today?”  When I first heard the phrase I myself went Hmmm.. After all I was hearing it from my 5 year old son as he was describing that if he and his classmates filled each others buckets,  at the end of the month his Kindergarten class got extra time at recess. I just nodded my head and said “wow that is awesome!” not knowing what I would find out on Back to School Night really required a WOW.

My son’s school is working on a new way to get the teachers, children and parents on the right track this school year based on the children’s book Have you filled A Bucket Today?  by Carol McCloud. The book is used as a guide to daily happiness for children. In the book, children are taught about Bucket Filling, Bucket Dipping, Putting a Lid On and that when they fill someone else’s bucket, they are actually filling their own.

With all the bullying issues on the news it is definitely in my opinion a great way to teach children early on using a concept they can understand. Adults can learn from this exercise as well, and we have even started using it at home by making sure we say something “bucket filling” to everyone in the house everyday. It has also helped to teach my son that sometimes Mommys and Daddys just need to “put a lid ” on so they don’t say the wrong thing.

As parents, we need to teach our children how to be kind to others so that this becomes part of their everyday life. We can do that by making their day everyday, being there for them all the time, choosing your attitude when speaking to them or in front of them. Just these things will implode their buckets in a positive way.

Here is the Bucket Filling Pledge:

I promise to do my best everyday to be a bucket filler not to dip and to use my lid for myself and others at home, work, school and everywhere I go!

By reading this post you have taken the pledge how will you help full someone’s bucket today?
