Wildwood Vacation Summer Fun at Moreys Piers

Wildwood Vacation & Summer Fun at Moreys Piers

Last week my family along with another family planned a beach vacation to Wildwood NJ. Summer Fun at Moreys Piers was where we were headed. I LOVE the beach and so does my son but we also LOVE to have  FUN! When we say FUN, we love to ride the rides , play games and enjoy all the delicious food offered along the Boardwalk. In wildwood the Boardwalk amusements consists of Morey’s Piers  .

Morey’s Piers,  is one of the largest amusement parks on the Western Hemisphere, consisting of   3 areas along the boardwalk with over 100 rides. There is also 2  beachfront waterparks each with it’s own personality and  lazy river!

Our first night in Wildwood we visited Morey’s Piers and purchased a Family Super Value Package . Knowing that out of the seven nights we would be in Wildwood, at least six of them would be on the boardwalk this was the best option for our families.

A Family that Slides Together Stays Together!!!

Watching families who were there enjoying their time together and making memories that will last a lifetime, just like us! Having not been to Wildwood in over decade, it was nice to see it so vibrant and the team of employees looked happy to be there and were extremely friendly.

During our Wildwood Vacation we were invited as guests of Morey’s Piers to visit the Waterparks and Amusements for the entire day. We started our day bright and early and decided that we would enjoy renting a cabana  at the Ocean Oasis waterpark.   We have always been cabana renters when we visit a waterpark.   This was a no brainer for us and the price was extremely reasonable and family budget friendly.

Each area of the boardwalk has something different to offer from Go-carts, Springshot , and even Helicopter Rides. Maps are available throughout the parks and online.  If you are like me check it out before you go and start the excitement early.

Being a #fulltimeworkingmomwhodoesitall it was important for me to unwind on this vacation. I was able to enjoy life through the eyes of my son. The rides are so well maintained that I had no fear, even when my son said “mom I am ready to try the big roller coaster”. I was so excited for him we did it together!

Our Wildwood Vacation Summer Fun at Moreys Piers was amazing. We look forward to visiting again next summer and continuing the tradition of quality family time in a family owned atmosphere.

**Disclosure** Main Street Mama received wristbands for unlimited access to Morey’s Piers and waterparks for one day. Honestly we had an awesome time and can’t wait to do it again next year!

We assembled with some blogger buddies for a fun night!

Last week Main Street Mama and my family had an opportunity to attend opening night at the IZOD Center in E.Rutherford NJ. Lately I must admit getting my seven year old to agree to live shows has been a challenge he says there are way too many princesses mommy! Well when I got invited to opening night of Marvel Universe Live I knew the only princess he would have to worry about seeing that night was me and of course the Black Widow.

Prior to the show we attended a meet and greet with some of the characters and the children and adults were able to assemble into their favorite characters. The different areas where manned by actual actors in the live show, the children and parents had a ball trying to fight crime with them.

Marvel Avengers Assemble

Marvel Avengers Assemble

The show which our whole family agreed is the best Feld Show we have ever seen. The  new innovation in set design, aerial stunts, pyrotechnics and state-of-the-art show elements that bring movie style special effects to the live entertainment arena. Everyone  will see the awe-inspiring world of Super Heroes come to life before their eyes.  The performers utilize their talents in a unique combination of never before seen arena mechanics. You will see some of Marvel’s mightiest  come to life with profound results. These true-to-comic creations will be supported by innovative lighting design and transformative 3D projection, that will take the audience on a journey around the globe with these timeless characters. In order for this to happen Marvel Universe LIVE  not only utilizes the entire arena floor, but also performs within a multilevel aerial space creating a unique experience that puts audiences right in the middle of the action. Being born and raised in NY , I think my favorite piece of scenery was Lady Liberty herself!

Our Morning At The Cape May Whale & Dolphin Watch

Our Morning At The Cape May Whale Watch & Research Center

Yesterday my family along with a great friends family spent our morning at the Cape May Whale & Dolphin Watch. The Cape May Whale Watch and Research Center (CMWW & RC). Prior to our trip to the Cape May area I had noticed a few friends enjoying excursions such as this and since making memories is what vacation is all about for this Main Street Mama this was a must do for our family.

Our Crew ready to spot some Dolphins

Our Crew ready to spot some Dolphins

As we boarded the ship we were greeted by the crew who was friendly, delightful and knowledgeable in answering all of our questions. The watch which left on time  is started with an overview of what we can expect to see , and a some history about dolphins, whales , the area and that we could site some rare endangered species of birds overhead so always be on the look out.

Alissa showing the children the Dolphin's Palate

Alissa showing the children the Dolphin’s Palate

During our two and a half hours on board the ship we spotted many dolphins in their own environment. The children were very excited as they saw them glide through the water often bowing as the swam rapidly around our boat. We learned that no two dolphins have the same fin, many of the dolphins had been named by the naturalist staff on board. It was wonderful to watch them point out the different characteristics and see the enthusiasm in them as the explained  patiently to our very curious children.

Some of our Sightings

Some of our Sightings

With various four watch times available throughout the day. Be sure to check out the schedule  and find the right time for you and your family to visit and explore.

During our time on board a naturalist came around and told us about Jessica Rekos, a first grader killed in the Sandy Hook school shooting. Jessica had a love for whales and while on board the children could make a patch for a quilt that would be raffled to support her foundation , so that other children can enjoy her love of whales. It was a bit emotional explaining to my seven year old why we were making the patch. He understood why and was happy that maybe his work of art could make someone smile.

Jessica Rekos Foundation Information

Before disembarking the children were invited to come up top to visit the play and touch exhibits on the top of the boat. They got to touch horseshoe crabs, clams and lots of things that this Main Street Mama would not. A little fact learned was that if you kiss a horseshoe crab you get seven years good luck. That I did do!!!

We hope you can see how much we loved our visit and hope you and your family enjoy your vacations this summer!

**Disclaimer** Main Street Mama received complementary passes to write an honest review of Cape May Whale and Dolphin Watch and we honestly had an awesome time and would do it again!

Pleasant in Pleasantville

Pleasant in Pleasantville

A little over  two years ago , we decided to move from the home where I was raised and where we raised our son for almost 5 years. Nicholas was getting ready to enter Kindergarten and Yonkers at the time didn’t offer a full day program. Being a #fulltimeworkingmomwhodoesitall this was not an option for us. My mom at the time was living in Pleasantville with my sister and while she visited weekly for 3 days at a time, she was not prepared nor did we have the room for her to be with us full-time. Nicholas had been in a private pre-school 5 full days since he was two years old so having him in school for 2.5 hours a day would have been a tremendous change for him. We began our search for  a new home in a a town that offered full day kindergarten and was considered an excellent school district. Our search ended when we found our Pleasant home in Pleasantville!

When I tell people I meet that we live in Pleasantville the first thing that is said ninety percent of the time “is it really Pleasant in Pleasantville” . YES it is, Pleasantville is a small town my son’s now second grade class has 113 children broken up into 5 classes. We are more than happy with the school district, the love and support we got from his principal and his Kindergarten teacher when my mom suddenly passed as he was about to start first grade was something we will never forget.

Our first Thanksgiving in our new home 2013

Our first Thanksgiving in our new home 2013

There are no school buses as everyone within the school district is considered in a 1 mile walking distance to all three schools. While at times I am concerned with it being such a “small town” we have made other concessions to ensure our son has friends outside of the district, wether it is his best buddy who lives on Long Island, friends who are like family scattered throughout NY, pre-school friendships we have maintained or not sending him to town camp where he can have tons of fun yet still have playdates with his school mates. He has also made some incredible friendships as have my husband and I .

What prompted me to write this post was recently my son got sick with a horrible virus, the support we received from our friends, wether it was dropping off a slurpee, bringing him ice cream , cooking us dinner or just calling and texting to see if we needed anything. As I sat and wished I had a magic wand knowing that it could have been worse and wishing I could stop the discomfort he was in I thought to myself life is really pleasant in pleasantville.

Me being me I didn’t write the post and the following week we had our Mountain Road block party, being on the go all the time we rarely have time to interact with all our neighbors. It was a wonderful day, friends visited us from Long Island for the party and commented on how nice it was to see everyone pitch in to make it a huge success and I promptly said that’s because it’s Pleasant in Pleasantville.

Today while I was sitting on my porch following up on emails received from  last week’s Blogger Bash #bbnyc a neighborhood boy walked onto my porch holding a WWE Encyclopedia . This young man who is 13 said he was cleaning up his room and knew Nicholas was very much into the WWE  and thought he might like to have it. I talked to Andrew a bit about his recent trip to Hershey, about his favorite ride and which chocolate he enjoyed the most.  He was so polite and a pleasure to speak with. When he left our porch , I sat down cried, and thought we did make the right choice moving here Life is Pleasant in Pleasantville!

Main Street Mama Gets Back to Blogging

Main Street Mama Gets Back to Blogging

Just about two years ago, I founded Main Street Mama. When I sat and thought about what or who Main Street Mama would be, it would be a blog about the Main Mama in charge, the Main Mama you see walking down the street. Yes I would host personal giveaways, share insight but it would be centered around who I was, who I strive to be, the things I approve and reccommend for my own family and who I associate with. About a year ago life got in the way for this #fulltimeworkingmomwhodoesitall, but now it’s time Main Street Mama Gets Back to Blogging.

So much has happened since my last “real” blog post at the start of last summer. The summer of 2013 started with a surprise trip to Disney for my son’s sixth birthday. We went to Hershey Park, beaches, pools, our families lake house and had what we thought would be the summer of our lives. Main Man would be starting first grade and all was right in the world.

My mom who lived with us the majority of the year and spent her summers at a campground with my aunt came home on Labor Day weekend, we were all excited to have her home as in all reality she was the chief, cook and bottle washer of our home while I worked.  We missed her when she was gone, but made regular trips on the weekends to see her and mainman had spent a few days during the summer with her. All of a sudden my son said to us that grandma was talking funny. When we went over to her , we had realized she was suffering a stroke, we quickly called 911 and from that moment on our lives forever changed. Mom did not recover from her stroke and passed away just four short days later.

Missing Grandma

Missing Grandma

We were also trying to expand our family and shortly after my moms passing we suffered a miscarriage. It was at that time we decided that our family although not perfect to many was perfect for us. Our son is a well rounded, smart, funny and well as his grandma called him a #sweetboy.

Although I don’t think any of us will ever be over the death of my mother, we are trying to carry on the way she would have wanted us to, we went on our annual family vacation over the holiday season to St.Marten and toasted my mother and enjoyed the #familyfirst time with our cousins, aunts and uncles and #friendswhoarefamily.

Our families Happy Place St.Marten

Our families Happy Place St.Marten

When 2014 began I wondered how so much has happened since our trip to Disney, my son was in the full swing of first grade, he had fallen in love with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), began reading stronger, had developed a love for soccer, basketball and was awaiting the start of baseball season. At that time I thought I needed Main Street Mama to Get Back to Blogging , but trying to do it all while working 60 hours a week without my mom was not easy. While after bedtime was my time to sit and write, it became the time for me do laundry, prep the next days dinner and make sure the after school coverage was taken care of.

Now we are at the halfway mark of 2014 summer has begun, life is what summer should be about, longer easier days. Pool parties, family vacations, BBQ’s and lots of #familyfirst time. I have registered for Blogger Bash 2014 #BBNYC with two of my BFF’s and bloggers from around the USA.  I am looking forward as Main Street Mama Gets Back to Blogging and I hope you will join Main Street Mama and take a walk down the street with me.

Norwegian Cruise Lines The GetAway #UltimateGetaway

Today our family was invited aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines newest ship to set sail The Getaway, as guests of Norwegian Cruise Lines and The Moms. where we experienced the #ultimategetaway.  Once we cleared security we were welcomed aboard by the crew and escorted into the Illusionarium . Once seated we dined on a gourmet three course lunch and were able to see a preview of the onboard entertainment.  Our cruise director Julie, YES her name was Julie started off with a warm welcome sharing some of the exciting things we would soon be seeing on The Getaway.

Prociutto, Mozzarella & Tomato followed by Surf and Turf Topped off with a Trilogy of Sweets

The  sizzling entertainment of Burn the Floor, a non-stop display of movement and style based on the world-renowned Broadway show started our afternoon entertainment. Next up was the magic of Lysander the magician, which had everyone intrigued wondering how did he do that? Our family loves broadway plays so we were excited to be able to see a sneak peak of Legally Blonde The Musical. Exclusively on Norwegian Getaway, this seven-time Tony Award-nominated musical proves once and for all that blondes do have more fun. Main Man’s favorite part of the entertainment was the finale. A dance party by everyones favorite Nickelodeon characters.  Sponge Bob, Patrick Star, Dora and even Diego joined in the fun. The look on the children’s faces as their favorite Nick friends entered the room was priceless.

After viewing the onboard entertainment the children where able to visit the Splash Academy . Where Kids ages 3-12 can do what they do best – be kids! With complimentary youth programs this  is where they can enjoy age-appropriate creative play, sports and more.

While the kids were having fun we were then given a tour of this #ultimategetaway experience. There is certainly something for everyones palate with 15 different dining options. With everything from Carlos Bakery Cafe to  Wasabi Noodle Bar and everything in-between. For  If it’s nightlife your looking for or an after dinner drink there are 9 bars and lounges where you can unwind , enjoy a cocktail or dance the night away. Personally I look forward tot visiting the Svedka Ice Bar  located on deck eight, the SVEDKA Ice Bar will accommodate approximately 25 guests at a time. Guests who will don hooded coats and gloves to keep warm, since the artic-like room’s temperature will not rise above 17 degrees Fahrenheit. While every cruise has at least 2 days at sea don’t fret there is ALWAYS something to do.  The Aqua Park where guests can twist and shout with five watersides, two swimming pools and four hot tubs. The Sports Complex features mini golf, basketball court, rock climbing wall , a bungee trampoline and a web climbing cage featuring the largest ropes course at sea.  If your family is full of thrill seekers then you must confront The Plank , a platform that extends eight feet over the side of the ship. Looking for some MOM time be sure to visit the Getaway spa for the #ultimategetaway spa experience in 23,000 square feet. I must admit the casino on board all 18,000 square feet of it, had me itching to try my luck at a black jack table sometime soon.

The Norwegian Getaway also offers Entourage where teens can be themselves , hang out and meet new friends designed like an adult lounge minus the adults. Since the big kids will be busy between Splash Academy and Entourage don’t worry if your onboard with a child over 6 months to 2 years because Norwegian Cruise Lines has a dedicated nursery.

Although the ships port of call will be Miami, New York City should be honored to house the ship for a few days.

All opinions are that of my own and our family has decided a cruise is where our next vacation will be!
