#WWE #TheVFoundation Knocking Out Pediatric Cancer

Many of you who follow along with Main Street Mama know that we are a #WWEFamily. When I first  became a #WWEMoms my son was becoming a #wrestlingaddict.  I was fortunate to be invited to meet WWE Chief Brand Officer and mom of 3 Stephanie McMahon. Upon meeting Steph we were introduced further to the WWE Brand. WWE was striving to incorporate family values back into their sports entertainment business. Those values start at the corporate level and trickle down to the athletes and to the fans. It’s one of the things we love most about WWE.

Shortly after becoming a #WWEMoms, WWE established Connor’s Cure . Connor’s Cure was established in honor of 8-year-old WWE fan Connor Michalek, a patient at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC who battled medulloblastoma, a rare tumor that affects the brain and spinal cord. To date, Connor’s Cure has raised nearly $1 million and assisted more than 100 families around the world. I will never forget our first WWE event where we learned about Connors Cure my than 6.5 yr old rested his head on my shoulder and cried. Later that night he came to me with $50.00 from his own wallet and asked me to buy a Connor’s Cure bracelet for all his friends.

This past week WWE and The V Foundation announced  a multi-year partnership.

The new partnership will expand Connor’s Cure outside of Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation and support other top research centers and hospitals nationwide. As a result of the new partnership, funds raised by WWE will support Connor’s Cure through The V Foundation’s grant-making process. The V Foundation’s Scientific Advisory Committee, comprised of world-class physicians and research scientists, vets and awards top-rated grant proposals from the nation’s leading medical facilities. In addition, funding will continue to support the research being done at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

WWE is committed to raising awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research throughout the year through the sale of Connor’s Cure bracelets, fundraising programs and through its global platforms including WWE Network and TV broadcasts, live events, and digital and social media.

Every year, 12,000-15,000 children are newly diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. Through the efforts of The V Foundation, progress is being made with cure rates for most pediatric cancers dramatically improving. The V Foundation has awarded nearly $20 million through 66 pediatric research grants to-date, including more than $5 million to pediatric cancer research in 2015.

Just in time for the 10th Anniversary of Surf’s Up the Original film about surfing penguins , Sony Pictures Animation and WWE Studios announced last week that in 2017 together they will release Surf’s Up 2: WaveMania.

In the upcoming movie Surf’s Up Wave Mana Cody Maverick, hungry for a new challenge, convinces an infamous big wave riding crew known as The Hang 5, voiced by WWE Superstars John Cena, The Undertaker, Triple H, WWE Diva Paige and Mr. McMahon, to let him join them on their journey to a mysterious surf spot known as The Trenches, where legend has it, they’ll find the biggest waves in the world. Cody soon discovers that the life he left behind might be more heroic than what any death-defying wave has to offer.  Genndy Tartakovsky’s protégé Henry Yu (story artist on Sym-Bionic Titan and both Hotel Transylvania feature films) makes his directorial debut with this project, which is produced by Michelle Wong (production manager on Hotel Transylvania 2) and features computer animation from Rainmaker Entertainment Inc.  Abdul Williams (Lottery Ticket) is writing the screenplay.

“We are thrilled to be working with Sony Pictures Animation in bringing Cody Maverick back to audiences for more adventures, paired with our WWE Superstars in what promises to be a fun animated film for the entire family,” said Michael Luisi, WWE Studios President.

WWE has a proven track record with family audiences, and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with them and dive back into the fun world of our surfing penguins,” adds Kristine Belson, President, Sony Pictures Animation.

When I first became a #WWEMOM I had the pleasure of screening Scooby Doo WrestleMania Mystery and ever since I have become hooked on WWE along with my son. We look will patiently await the arrival of Surf’s Up 2: WaveMania!

WWE Superstar Xavier Woods and Diva Naomi Celebrate Diversity

WWE Superstar Xavier Woods and Diva Naomi Celebrate Diversity

February is Black history Month during which WWE has Superstar Xavier Woods and Diva Naomi Celebrated Diversity with blog posts on how they celebrate all year long and not just this month.

I wanted to share them with you. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did!

Black History Month presents an important opportunity, not only to celebrate the countless achievements of African Americans and their role in shaping our history and culture, but also to reflect on where we are now as a nation, and how we can continue to grow together.  Black History Month should be a time to learn from mistakes that were made in the past and aspire to a time when the only race that defines us is the human race.
Like so many African American children, I grew up dealing with racism and ignorance, and I know kids across the country are still dealing with the same obstacles.  That is why I love to work outside of the ring and spread positive messages, just as much as I love performing inside the ring.  When I interact with young fans, I want to instill a sense of confidence in each and every child, just as my mother did for me.  For 35 years, my mother worked tirelessly to support my brother and me.  She was always there to make sure I stayed on track, even when I wanted to give up or when someone told me I wasn’t good enough.  She made sure the word “quit” wasn’t in my vocabulary.  Throughout my entire life, I’ve never seen my mother quit.  Everyone has their insecurities, but I learned early on that no one but me can determine my worth or decide my limitations.  That is the message I hope to pass on to every person questioning themselves and their ability.
It’s so important to me that my fans know their inner beauty and self-worth, and that they never allow someone else’s label to limit their success.  I knew that I was destined to be a WWE Diva and refused to give up.  I live by the mantra, “Don’t follow your dreams, chase them,” and I hope the young fans watching me perform know that if I was able to become a WWE Diva, they can achieve their wildest dreams too.  I’m here because I beat the odds and so can you.
While I am proud to represent black women, my role as a Diva and an athlete is to be an empowering voice for women, period.  Regardless of race, we all want the same things: love, respect and our individuality.  My hope for the future is that, by loving what makes each of us different, we will learn to celebrate the diversity of those around us.  There’s no better time than now to look in the mirror, find what we love about the reflection staring back, and widen the lens through which we view each other.

Black History Month is an important time to celebrate the influence African-Americans had on history, but it’s also important to recognize that this history isn’t just “black history,” it’s everyone’s history.
While we’ve come a long way in a relatively short amount of time, we have far to go and it’s so important to me that I continue my family’s legacy of progression.  My grandmother is the strongest person I know.  She lived through hardships I can’t imagine and made so many sacrifices in order for her children and her children’s children to benefit and lead a better life.  Because of her sacrifices and the sacrifices of so many others, I’m able to pursue an education and live out my dreams.  That’s why, in addition to being a WWE Superstar, I am actively working on attaining my PhD.  Despite the hardships my grandmother faced, she is one of the most positive people I’ve ever met.  She always has a smile on her face and that has had a profound effect on me.  I always look for the positive in life and never stop trying to better myself.
Back in high school, there was a wrestler, who was a few years older than me and the star athlete of the team.  After he graduated, I won the first big tournament of the year.  I was so excited and commented to my coach that I felt just like that star athlete that had graduated.   He said, “Why? You should feel like Austin Watson.  You should never compare yourself to anyone around you.”  That stuck with me.  It taught me to be proud of who I am and my own achievements, whether that’s winning a match or not conforming to anyone else’s idea of who I am or should be.  That’s something I really try to pass along to the kids I meet as a WWE Superstar.  Growing up, I didn’t have great social skills, but I found that I was able to better communicate and find friends through video games.  That’s actually what brought me out of my shell and lead me to pursue sports.  Of course, being a young, black “nerd” who liked to play video games wasn’t considered “cool,” and I got picked on.  In adolescence, you look to your peers who are “cool” and “popular” and you let them define who you think you should be rather than celebrate what makes you unique.  Being a gamer is what makes me unique and fun!  There is no need to be ashamed of who you are and what makes you happy.
Regardless of race, it is important to live by your own standards and not those set for you by society.  We are all individual people, not groups labeled according to color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, etc.  I hope that we can use Black History Month as a reminder to build bridges rather than boxes.

I have not been compensated for this post. I enjoy sharing these blogs with my son as we raise him to be accepting , be a star , and live in a diverse world.

WWE brings together the best of sports entertainment, pop entertainment , and celebrity appearances. This tribute to honor and thank the servicemen and women who protect our country is a favorite of mine. In past years I have  recorded and watch over again throughout the holiday season. What a way to give back to those who give so much.

#RISEABOVECANCER and GO PINK WITH WWE

#RISEABOVECANCER and GO PINK WITH WWE

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and once again our friends at WWE have joined forces with Susan G Komen to #RISEABOVECANCER and GO PINK!

To support Komen’s mission, WWE will utilize all its assets including WWE Network and TV broadcasts, live events, PSAs, digital and social media to generate awareness and encourage fans to get involved. Throughout the month, the WWE announcer table, entrance ramp and ring skirts will be co-branded and the middle ring rope turned pink to promote the fight against breast cancer. Fans will also have the option to turn their Facebook and Twitter profiles pink to show their support. In addition, a co-branded WWE and Susan G. Komen flag will be flown outside of WWE’s corporate headquarters.

“We are so grateful for our partnership with WWE,” said Christina Alford, SVP of development for Susan G. Komen. “Their ‘Rise Above Cancer’ campaign reaches women in communities across the country, bringing awareness and helping us fund lifesaving research, and support to families living with breast cancer who need our help today.”

“WWE is exceptionally proud to continue our partnership with Susan G. Komen and its support of breast cancer research and awareness,” said WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon. “WWE remains deeply committed to this movement, as we utilize our global platforms to raise awareness and funds for a disease that impacts so many people around the world.”

Susan G. Komen and WWE have a history of success in raising awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer. The partnership launched in 2012 and has generated more than $1.5 million for Komen to date. This past May, Komen and WWE teamed up again to support the Washington, D.C. Race for the Cure and National Women’s Health Week.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month WWE fans can buy #RISEABOVECANCER gear and WWE will donate 20% of all sales to Susan G. Komen while shopping the WWE SHOP you can also add an additional donation of your own.

While watching Monday night Raw this past monday I was touched when all the superstars came our wearing their #RISEABOVECANCER ring gear, but what touched me more was that my 8 yr old son went and got a WWE gift card he had and asked if he could buy a shirt to wear and make a donation. I believe it was this segment that moved him to do so!

Lifelong Fan Signs Contract With WWE

Lifelong Fan Signs Contract With WWE

Last Monday like we do every Monday  I sat with my 8 year old son Nicholas and we watched Monday Night Raw. Earlier in the week I had watched a video on Triple H’s Facebook page showing a very special young man named Elijah Mainville receiving a Money In The Bank briefcase. from The briefcase contained a real life WWE CONTRACT, just like the one Seth Rollins carried into WrestleMania 31.

Elijah Mainville is an 8 year old Lifelong WWE Fan. Elijah who is battling Neuroblastomia since the age of 3 has been receiving treatment for the past 5 years. In April of this past year Elijah and his family were told his cancer was in remission to only learn in July that it had returned.

Elijah like many kids has a dream of growing up and becoming a wrestle, I can only imagine his compassion as I have a son the same age with the same dream. This past spring while WWE launched auditions for their new reality show Tough Enough, Elijah decided to make an audition video and his mom posted it to You Tube.

The Authority, which consists of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon saw Elijah’s video and in true WWE fashion decided to make this little boys dream come true. After Monday Night Raw went off the air last week an arena full of the WWE Universe looked on as this Lifelong Fan signed his WWE Contract!

Since Elijah’s favorite wrestlers are The Undertaker and StarDust it would only be right that StarDust be present and welcome Elijah or as he will be known to the WWE Universe Drax Shadow to the WWE family.

As a parent I thank god everyday for the gift of motherhood and I can only imagine what The Mainville Family has gone through these past 5 years. As a #WWEMom I can Thank WWE for what they stand for and once again showing that their are businesses that truly care.

DoSomething.org and WWE Take On Bullying For Second Straight Year

DoSomething.org and WWE Take On Bullying For Second Straight Year

For the Second Straight Year WWE has partnered with DoSomething.org to take on Bullying. After blogging about this program last year, my son was proud to do many projects for school on anti-bullying.

Nicholas promoting Anti-Bullying at School

Nicholas promoting Anti-Bullying at School

DoSomething.org is one of the largest global organizations for young people and social change, and global entertainment company WWE and its Be a STAR anti-bullying initiative, are teaming up for The Bully Text: Superstar Edition. The campaign, now in its second year, gets young people to take action around bullying by playing an SMS text message game.

From August 3rd until Monday, August 31, young people can virtually work their way through six levels of scenarios with guidance from WWE Superstars and Divas, including Roman Reigns®, Dean Ambrose®, Paige®, Natalya® and Alicia Fox®. Then, each player is given options to stand up and speak out against bullying. For example, “You sit behind Roman. Someone in the back of the bus keeps throwing paper airplanes at him. Do you A) Play it cool- it’s not your fight or B) play Superman?” Along the way, players will see how their anti-bullying skills compare to others, and ultimately whether they’ve earned the WWE World Heavyweight Championship title in bullying prevention. Every player will also receive the chance to win a Be a STAR rally at his or her school or community center.

“WWE’s massive reach and stellar talent have helped us activate thousands of young people around anti-bullying,” said Naomi Hirabayashi, chief marketing officer at DoSomething.org. “We’re excited to rally WWE fans around this issue for year two to make it bigger and better than ever!”

“We are proud to once again partner with DoSomething.org and provide thousands with resources to help put an end to bullying in their communities,” said Stephanie McMahon, WWE Chief Brand Officer. “Utilizing our global assets and larger than life WWE Superstars and Divas, we are confident that this campaign will help educate young people on the dangers of bullying and encourage them to stand up for themselves and others.”

In 2014, nearly 100,000 young people played the Bully Text game. To play Bully Text this year, text BULLY to 38383 or visit DoSomething.org/bully*.

**Disclosure** I am part of the #WWEMoms ambassador program. My son is a HUGE WWE fan and as a parent I love what many of these superstars stand for an that they show the importance of giving back when you are BEing a Star!

WWE Superfan Battling Cancer Meets his Favorite Superstars and Divas

WWE Superfan Battling Cancer Meets his Favorite Superstars and Divas
As my readers know , our house is filled with WWE fans not just my son, but my husband , nephew , myself and my son’s friends gather around the television for every pay per view event, Monday Night Raw and Smack Down Thursdays. I explain to my son that the WWE Superstars are sports entertainers and that he is not supposed to mimic what they do on television, and usually I get a response well what about all the good they do for Connor’s Cure , Make a Wish  and of course the Dream Foundation. I guess he has a point there. When I read the piece on how WWE Superfan Battling Cancer Meets his Favorite Superstars and Divas I just had to share it with you all.
Last Sunday night, in Roanoke, VA, WWE and the Dream Foundation teamed up so that a WWE fan battling lung cancer could have his dream fulfilled.  He was able to attend the show and meet with some of his favorite WWE Superstars and Divas.  An excerpt from the story is below and the full story is available here :http://www.wset.com/story/29436141/man-battling-lung-cancer-meets-wwe-superstarFor one night, cancer was not on their minds, as WWE Superstars came in, one by one, to greet the Fulchers, and brighten their spirits. Kisses from WWE Diva Cameron, and a bear hug from Ryback made their situation the last thing on their minds. Just before showtime, the Fulcher’s favorite wrestler, Roman Reigns, stopped by to meet his biggest fan.

For the WWE Superstar, it’s a moment that is uplifting to him as well, saying “When you can take a little bit of extra time to connect personally with somebody, and make a friend. That’s what’s awesome, the friendships, the relationships. That’s what you take with you.”

For this #WWEMOM I love reading these pieces and sharing them with my son. This summer after reading this he has decided to take a reading challenge and raise money for Connor’s Cure and the Dream Foundation. Not only is it teaching him to care for other’s but it’s increasing his knowledge.

Thank you to the WWE Superstars who give so much of their personal time to make precious days a little better.

I was not compensated for this post. We love the WWE and what it stands for with family and core values.

Natalya and Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart

Natalya and Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart

Most people know that I have followed in my dad’s footsteps professionally, carrying on the Hart family legacy in WWE. However, what people don’t know, is how much I’ve followed his example outside of the ring. It’s easy for people to think that because of my last name, I was handed my position as a WWE Diva.  The truth is, I struggled a lot to make it to the WWE.  I am grateful for those doors being slammed in my face. I kept going, following my heartbeat, my pulse, and what made me excited to wake up every morning, my love for wrestling. I didn’t realize it at the time, but all of the tiny wars and setbacks would make me stronger than I could ever imagine. My dad reminded me that I would become more skilled learning how to “drive” on that winding road, than on that straight, “perfect” road. So I kept going. I persevered through years of being rejected, trying to make it to WWE. It is true, I am my father’s daughter. Our professions may be the same, but I’ve learned much more about life from my father than I could ever learn about wrestling. Growing up, my father instilled in me several key values that have made me the person I am today. Most importantly, hard work and determination pay off, family will always come first and having fun is more important than winning. After all, in the end, it’s the fun stuff in life that we want to remember!

My father always had goals. Before he came to WWE, he was a world class shot-putter. He went to UCLA on a full scholarship. He played in the NFL for the Dallas Cowboys and the Oakland Raiders. Then, he went on to become a multiple-time WWE Tag Team Champion.  My dad was always working toward something. He had this incredible discipline inside of him. When he put his mind to it, there was nothing he couldn’t do. He showed me that if you never stop setting small goals, big dreams come true as long as you have enough determination and motivation to not give up. He taught me that just because someone tells you can’t do something or a door closes, doesn’t mean you should throw in the towel. That’s when you grab the towel and hit the ground running!  Each set back and each obstacle is a learning experience that provides the knowledge you need to achieve your goal on the next try. My dad showed me that it’s ok to fall down,  because when you get back up, you’ll be strong like an ANVIL.

I’m also incredibly grateful that my father showed me what unconditional love looks and feels like. He has lived through major triumphs and some difficult pitfalls. Through it all, he never forgot the importance of family. My father has always believed that family is EVERYTHING. Winning the Divas Championship was a wonderful feeling and getting to be in the ring during WrestleMania is indescribable. However, I came to the realization a long time ago, that for me, if I don’t build relationships with people that share in my joy and help carry me when I stumble, my accomplishments won’t mean anything. Every time my dad watches me wrestle & cheers me on, I feel like I’m the champion of the world.

Finally, my father taught me the importance of having fun… F-U-N! My father is my biggest supporter, and he is always there to remind me to smile, pause and enjoy the moment. I can still hear his words ringing loudly before I walk out for every match: “Don’t forget to look out at the crowd and connect with them. They believe in you the same way that I do.”  Being a WWE Diva is hard work, there’s no doubt about that. There are long hours, lots of traveling and intense training. However, I wouldn’t trade it for the world because I really love what I do. My father reminds me to this day how lucky I am that my passion is wrestling because I never have to work a day in my life.” (Insert ANVIL laugh while pulling his goatee!) For that reason, I never gave up on my dream, and now I get to live it every day. My dad pushed me to keep going because he knew I loved this. He knew how much fun it was for me. My happiness made him happy.

Recently, I moved to a new house. I hired movers, thinking I would just sit back and let them take care of everything. I hate moving! My cats hate moving. My goldfish hates moving (Ok, I don’t have a goldfish, but you get it!).  Instead, my father insisted on coming to oversee the move. He took such pride in taking the reins and making sure everything went smoothly. What is normally an exhausting and stressful event turned out to be one of the best days I’ve ever had with my dad. I also schemed up a plan with my dad to break a plastic lion head my mom bought me at a garage sale. I secretly thought it was absolutely hideous. I didn’t have the heart to tell her I did not want it hanging front and center in my living room. Who else could I turn to? Of course, I asked my dad for his assistance! I told him to pretend he tripped over the sprinkler outside and “accidentally” broke this horrendous plastic piece that was truly uglier than any garden gnome I’ve ever seen. Without fail, my dad happily body-slammed this plastic hunk of junk onto my driveway, risking my mom yelling at him if she had caught him. Imagine what the neighbors were thinking!?  My dad did it for me! Mission accomplished! He broke that plastic lion head and my mom’s feelings were spared! Now that is LOVE.  During the move, we worked hard, we laughed, and when he couldn’t quite get the giant couch out the door by himself, I got the other end and we moved it together.

My father has taught me about love, perseverance, reflection, and how to throw a great punch! I am so proud of my dad. I wouldn’t be where I am today without him. I’m still working on growing my Anvil style goatee so I can be just like him 🙂

Happy Father’s Day, Daddy!  And Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful dads out there!

I hope you truly enjoy reading Natalya’s Father’s Day Blog as much as I did. Natalya is truly hands on with her fans. Just this past week I tagged her in an Instagram  photo of my son and nephew who were sporting Cesaro & Kidd tee shirts. For those of you who are not WWE savvy Tyson Kidd is Natalya’s husband. WELL Nattie not only “liked” my photo she commented as well! Natalya’s actions are from the heart not only with her family but with her fans.

** Disclosure** I have not been compensated for this post. I am a #WWEMOM Ambassador and I enjoy sharing my love for WWE!
